In most chalcids except Eulophidae, term used for a longitudinal groove (very rarely a carina) very close to the side of the scutellum that differentiate a lateral, usually more or less vertical scutellar region, the axillula, between the groove/carina and the usually posteriorly sloping axilla (see also sublateral grooves).
